Using StackShot, Gledhill compiled this image of an Alstroemeria stigma.

Tiny grains of pollen, some sprouting tubes to deliver their genetic cargo, are trapped in the nectar dripping off the flower’s female reproductive organ.

The shot is composed of 40 separate images taken at 17x magnification. Each image was taken in 20-micron (1/50 millimeter) steps.
