Jumping Mountain Goat
What happens when you find a seemingly old and foreign video showing goats doing crazy things? Try to figure if it is possible. The poor resolution of this video does not help – but I will do what I can. Since the goats are essentially in projectile motion during the jumps, I can look a the horizontal velocity and the vertical acceleration. This is what I get.
Notice that these plots are for multiple jumps. But during each one, the horizontal velocity seems constant and the vertical acceleration seems constant as well. Ok, so that doesn’t show it’s fake. But is it even physically possible? Yes. Possible, but still difficult to tell. I really had to guess about the both the frame rate and scale of the video.
The Verdict: If I had to pick, I would say real. However, this one could go either way. It really depends on the scale. Here is the original post with the details.
